Winding up 2020, Dr Vonda Wright is joined on HOT for your Health by Dr. Dion Metzker, celebrity Atlanta Psychiatrist as they explore the mental health challenges of this year and take an interesting look at  re-framing women’s roles in work, home and society via her book, “The Modern Trophy Wife.”

Dr. Dion Metzger is a board certified psychiatrist who manages her own practice in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine from Morehouse School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at Emory University School of Medicine. She also completed medical research at Stanford University School of Medicine and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 

Dr. Metzger is currently on faculty as a professor of psychiatry at Emory University School of Medicine, Medical College of Georgia and Morehouse School of Medicine. She is a health and wellness expert who has been featured on The Doctors, Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), ABC, NBC, HLN, and in The New York Times.

Dr. Metzger’s motto of “better mind, better life” encourages audiences to prioritize their mental health in life’s balance. She also is the co-author of The Modern Trophy Wife: How To Achieve Your Life Goals While Thriving at Home, a book that gives women the tools to strengthen, deepen or revitalize themselves and their relationships.

She is the nutrition consultant for the Kansas City Chiefs , Carnegie Mellon University athletics and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. She was the sports dietitian for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Blue Jays ,the Washington Nationals and the WNBA.

Leslie is a member of the Whey Protein Advisory Panel, and is an ambassador for the National Dairy Council. She is also a member of the Monsanto LEAD network.

She is the author of Sport Nutrition for Coaches and the American Dietetic Association Guide to Better Digestion and co-author of Run Your Butt Off, Walk Your Butt Off, the Active Calorie Diet and Bike Your Butt Off. She is also a blogger for Us News and World Report Eat + Run, and has a weekly television segment – The Winning Plate on KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh Today Live show. Leslie also has a weekly radio spot on KDKA-radio.

She is a former spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and has appeared on the Today Show, Dr Oz, and has been quoted in USA Today, Today.com, NBC.com, among others. She is on the Fitness magazine advisory board. Leslie has done several interviews on behalf of clients including The California Dried Plum Board, Kelloggs, SoyJoy, The National Dairy Council, Gatorade, and the Wonderfuls brand. She also does media training for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics spokespersons program.

In this episode, Dr Vonda Wright is joined by Interventional Radiologist, Dr John Lipman, founder of the Atlanta Fibroid Center as they talk about the hidden impact of uterine fibroids and the non-surgical way, he is saving women from hysterectomy and restoring their quality of life.

Dr. Lipman attended Georgetown University School of Medicine. He served as chief resident at Brigham & Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Lipman was awarded the Vascular & Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Yale New-Haven hospital, at the Yale School of Medicine, the Fellowship of Society of Interventional Radiology and the Fellowship in American College of Radiology. His current academic appointment is as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

She writes and speaks about these topics in addition to bone and joint issues, and has developed an online curriculum for those that want to be more and do more with their lives. As a mother and a surgeon, she is a mentor and champion for women and diversity in surgical specialties, and brings awareness to this through speaking engagements and an active online presence. She has been a featured contributor on KevinMD.com, called “a must-read blog” by Rebecca Ruiz of Forbes, among multiple other online sources of medical news. She is the hosts and creator of the podcast “The 6%” where she interviews pioneering women who work, innovate and lead in professions traditionally populated by men.

Prior to being an advice columnist, she ran her own online lifestyle magazine for five years and worked as a licensed mobile therapist, with her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She was also accepted to medical school in 2007 but deferred her seat to follow her creative passions. She also runs a small digital media consulting company and works with clients from all over the country.

In this episode Dr. Vonda Wright discusses 4 steps to body, brains and bliss! 

Vonda Wright is an orthopaedic surgeon and internationally recognized authority on active aging and mobility. She specializes in sports medicine and serves as the Chief of Sports Medicine for the Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute in Atlanta. An “Intra-preneur” she previously served as the inaugural Medical Director of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex and founding director of the Performance and Research Initiative for Masters Athletes (PRIMA). Dr. Wright’s pioneering research in musculoskeletal aging and mobility is changing the way we view and treat the aging process. 

In 2013, Dr. Wright ignited a national conversation on women’s health by launching the Women's Health Conversations movement with the belief that today’s generation of women can transform our nation’s health for the betterment of all women and the world. The platform grew to include large live events, an online community generating more than 6 million digital exposures surrounding the events and a health innovation experience for millennials. 

Dr. Wright regularly appears regularly in national TV, print and online media and is called upon to speak worldwide on topics of aging and longevity, healthcare innovation, women’s health and leadership. She has authored four books, Fitness After 40- “Your Strong Body at 40, 50, 60 and Beyond,” “Guide to THRIVE: 4 steps to Body, Brains & Bliss,” and “Younger in 8 weeks” and “Masterful Care of the Aging Athlete.” 

Dr. Wright holds Bachelors degrees from Wheaton College and Rush University, a Master’s of science in Oncology Nursing from Rush University and a medical degree from the University of Chicago. She completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and a fellowship in sports and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Raised on a farm in Kansas, Dr Wright lives with her husband, 2x Stanley Cup Champion, Peter Taglianetti and their blended family of 6 children in Atlanta.
